U.I.L. Congress

UIL

On January 7-8 Shelbyville students, Maddie Lout and Kennedy McArthur competed in the U.I.L. State Congress competition held at The University of Texas in Austin.  University Interscholastic League describes Congress as a  "mock legislative assembly, where contestants draft and research legislation dealing with real-world social and political policies. During the tournament, students deliver speeches and debate on these bills.  Both students advanced to the second day of the tournament by placing in the top six of their chamber.  The remaining 18 students compete at the Texas State Capitol. Kennedy placed 5th and Maddie earned the title of state champion. Shelbyville Speech and Debate is coached by Emily Sowell and Crystal Harrison.
